Lauris Mason, author of the Bellows catalogue raisonne, describes this image as Bellows' "euphoric tribute to the armistice" (p. 112)
In this, the second state, the eye of the Red Cross nurse is darkened, the features of the background figures are less distinct, and a white line has been added to the left of the sailboat
