Edition: At least 77, based on the number on an impression in the collection of the Bellows Family Trust

Bellows first drew this subject in 1907. It is based on his own visits to the State Hospital at Columbus, Ohio, in the company of his friend, the superintendent. Bellows knew the dancers and their idiosyncrasies personally, and had great compassion for them.
