Football Hero (John Sigrist) recto; "Fresh." (verso)

Pen, ink, and crayon with pencil and collage

1905

Signed and dated by the artist in ink lower right

A double-sided drawing

Note: John Sigrist was a former captain and considered one of the greatest players Ohio State produced in its first 25 years playing football. He was fundamental to the first period of sustained success that Ohio State had enjoyed on the gridiron until he tragically died due to injuries sustained in a game in 1901. His death shocked the entire community and football came within a hair of being abandoned altogether.

Provenance Gift of the artist to Anna Baker (Moore)
